Fact #1. Keratin is not everlasting
The effect of keratin treatment is long-lasting but not permanent. Depending on the procedure, the effect can last eight weeks to 3-4 months.
Fact #2. Keratin can be applied to any hair, curly and straight alike
A common enough myth is that the best type of hair for keratin treatment is curly hair. Absolutely not! Frizzy, coarse and brittle straight hair can benefit too as keratin will make it vibrant, smooth and shiny.
Fact #3. Keratin compositions are not relaxers
Like we were saying above, keratin is not a permanent solution while relaxers are. They powerfully interfere with the structure of your hair so you have to be sure in the final result before you apply them. At the same time, relaxers can be applied at home while keratin treatment must be carried out by a salon professional.
Fact #4. A keratin procedure is not an over-complicated process
In short, the procedure goes like this: your hair is divided into multiple strands. Then, a keratin solution is applied to your follicles and left to sit for some time. Afterwards, the hair is straightened and styled with a flat iron.
Fact #5. The hair requires careful post-treatment grooming
To maximize the duration of the keratin treatment effect, you must commit to thorough maintenance. Get rid of your current shampoo and minimize washing the hair to no more than 3 times a week. Beware shampoos with Sodium Laureth Sulfate as it destroys keratin. Chlorine and saltwater are dangerous too so swimming in a pool is not an option. When styling your hair in waves, remember to apply some oil.
